I have an opportunity to get a used pool table in good condition for free. The problem is that is weighs 500 pounds, so I would need several people to help me transport it. I am willing to rent a truck. Please let me know asap if you can help.

Marshall, I'm sure there are people willing to help (myself included) but we'll need specifics.

Call Danny Veigh's you might be surprised at how inexpensively they will professionally move it for.... After moving an AMF Playmaster table myself, just from my basement up one floor, I seriously recommend paying a professional, it is not an easy job. Just going up one flight of stairs with the slates was very rough on the body. If anyone is a professional mover, and has straps, I highly recommend they help you. The AMF playmaster had very thick slates, if the table you are getting has thinner slates, then it would be a lot easier.

If you decide to tackle it yourself I can help you remove the felt and refelt it, relevel it properly, and I should have some of the stuff to spackle the seams left from moving mine.

I work for Bud Light lol, but seriously you need someone who knows how to move them, or you could end up costing yourself a few bucks for a free pool table... The only thing I absolutely will not do is move slates again, those things can put you in the hospital lol!

I suggest that you take Steve's advice and get a moving company to do this. They've had experience and have the equipment needed for this move. Get a few estiments from companies and maybe those that plan on helping (including myself) can pitch in for the cost of the movers.

Why waste the money with professional movers? I've known people that got movers and they ended up breaking something. If you can get enough people, do it without spending the money. Just my opinion though. Plus, if you can get a lot of your friends to help, than you can compensate them with a pizza/beer party.

Once saw a homeowner who insisted on moving her grand piano with "friends". She ended up with a broken spine, was in a wheel chair for a year and has worked her way into being able to somewhat walk with a "gimp".

Pay the professionals.
